Setting a Long-Term Vision for BC’s Coastal Ferry System

Victoria, BC – At its Annual General Meeting on September 11, the BC Ferry Authority and BC Ferries presented Charting the Course, a 25-year vision for the coastal ferry system.

Developed through the joint leadership of the BC Ferry Authority and BC Ferries boards, and shaped by input from passengers, First Nations, communities, governments, and industry partners, Charting the Course sets out five goals to guide decision-making in the public interest: reliable and available; convenient and integrated; safe and comfortable; environmentally sensitive and resilient; and affordable and efficient.

“This vision allows us to better anticipate people’s needs as we plan for future service. British Columbians count on the ferries to get around the coast. Charting the course gives us a new compass – one that allows us to make the decisions we need to keep the ferry system working for people for years to come” said Peter Lantin, Chair of the BC Ferry Authority Board of Directors.

“British Columbia’s coastal ferry system is an essential public service that connects people, communities, and economies,” said Joy MacPhail, Chair of the British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. Board of Directors. “This vision reflects the voices of thousands across the province who shared their expectations for the future of ferry services.”
