Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo travel changes
 

This fall, critical infrastructure upgrades will begin at Horseshoe Bay terminal, reducing available vehicle space by 25%. As a result, all customers travelling by vehicle from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo) will need to book and pay in advance. These changes are about keeping people moving safely while we upgrade one of our busiest and most space-constrained terminals.

We know this is a big shift and we’re here to support our customers every step of the way. To help with this transition, we are introducing two offers this fall: Double the amount of Saver fares and $0 change fees for a limited time, on sailings from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo (Departure Bay) in one direction only.

Saver Fares Offer
Q. What are Saver fares?
A. Saver fare is our most affordable fare choice, starting from $49 one-way for a standard under-height vehicle and driver. Saver fares are designed to shift traffic to less busy sailings and free up space at more popular sailing times, giving those with flexibility in their plans an opportunity to save. 
 
Q. How do I find and book Saver fares? 

A. You can book Saver fares online. The Saver fare will appear on the sailing selection screen if they are available, and are shown on applicable sailings with a green banner. 

All sailings between October 15, 2025 and March 31, 2026 travelling from Horseshoe Bay - Nanaimo (Departure Bay) will have Saver fares, ranging from $49 on off-peak sailings to  $89 on busier sailings, one-way for a car and driver.

A limited number of Saver fares is available on each sailing and may sell out. Book today to secure your Saver fare.

A. Yes, Saver fares are available on the following routes: 
  • Vancouver (Tsawwassen) - Nanaimo (Duke Point) 
  • Vancouver (Tsawwassen) - Victoria (Swartz Bay) 
  • Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) - Nanaimo (Departure Bay) 
  • Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) - Sunshine Coast (Langdale) 
  • Comox (Little River) - Powell River (Westview)

Q. What bookings will be charged $0 change? 

A. Any bookings changing sailing times or dates can be modified for $0 so long as they are:

  • Travelling between Oct 15 and Nov 30
  • Travelling from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo (Departure Bay) 
 
Q. When will I be able to change / modify my bookings for travel between Oct 15 - Nov 30 for a $0 fee?
A. As of September 3rd, you can then modify any bookings for travel between Oct 15 - Nov 30 for $0 change fee. 
 

Q. What if I have a booking outside Oct 15 - Nov 30 and want to move it inside that travel window? Will I be charged? 
A. Yes, there is a fee, as the existing booking is outside the Oct 15 - Nov 30 travel window. 
 

Q. What if I have a booking during Oct 15 - Nov 30 and want to move it outside that travel window? Will I be charged? 
A. No, you will not be charged a fee, because the existing booking is within the Oct 15 - Nov 30 travel window.

 


Q. What booking types is this applicable for? 
A. This applies to all bookings: standard vehicles, over-height vehicles, commercial, passengers, and motorcycles.
 

Q. What if I modify a booking for travel between Nanaimo (Departure Bay) to Horseshoe Bay? 
A. You will be charged a standard change fee, the offer is only applicable to travel Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo (Departure Bay), one-way only.  

 
Q. When is the cut-off for making a change to my sailing? 

A. Up to one hour before booked sailing, for sailings that are still open for advance sales.
